The Santa Lucia Parish

In the Diocese of Quilmes, Florencio Varela, Argentina (Page 2 of 2)

At the moment we offer humanitarian aid through Social Services and Caritas to care for 80 families in the Santa Lucia Parish; we are caring for 60 families in the Chapel of San Francisco and Santa Clara, and 20 in the chapel San Jose de Nazaret. We also have a social work service (3 social workers), a mental health service (6 psychologists and psychopedagogy professionals), and a free legal advice service. This year we want to start preventive medicine and dental care services.

The number of sick brothers who approach our pharmacy looking for medication is very numerous, since the pharmacy of the Mother-Child Hospital —located a block away from the parish— cannot handle the demand for medication.

Any relief that can be brought or sent to us will be extremely useful. We need clothing, sneakers, medicines, nonperishable food, mattresses, blankets, construction and roofing materials, tools, and school supplies. We also need cash to purchase medications; to finance a project of humanization and socialization of children from families at risk; and for evangelizing activities like summer camps or week-long retreats with our children, youth, and adults.

The House of Solidarity Project

We have started a fund to acquire a building near the Parish to serve as a House of Solidarity. We hope to make this house a place of encounter, containment, service and advice to the needier brothers and sisters of our districts. Some of the services that could be offered in it are:

Caritas storage and service.
• Delivery of food, clothing, and medicines.
• American fair. Sewing workshop.
• Social Services.
• Mental health service.
• Preventive family medicine service.
• Family Orientation Center (FOC)
• Free legal advice.
• Arts and crafts workshops.
• School support.
• Assembly halls for groups and communities.
• Space for prayer, the Word, and the Eucharist.
• A yard for sports and games.
• Toilets. Kitchen.

Many of these activities are already carried out in the Parish, and our brothers and sisters have offered their help with others, but the lack of space often prevents us from developing them or from improving the quality of service.

This is why we were encouraged to get started. We are counting on you, first, so that you accompany us in prayer: in these times we live in we need God's providential aid to be able to make this project a reality; second, so that you may tell others about this project and seek those who can help us financially to carry it out.

We will be thankful for any aid that can be brought to us, and we request that when doing so you clearly indicate that it is to be destined to the fund for the House of Solidarity.
