In the Diocese of Quilmes, Florencio Varela, Argentina (Page 1 of 2)

Our Santa Lucia Parish, that the 8th December 2007 has turned 50 years of life, is in the locality of Florencio Varela and includes the districts Villa Vatteone (where is the parochial temple), Mayol (where we have the chapel San Francisco and Santa Clara), San Martín and Pista de Trote (where we began to construct the chapel San Jose de Nazaret in 2003). The total population of the four districts goes up to about 25,000 inhabitants. Since mid 1994, by request of the diocese of Quilmes, the parish is administered by a consecrated community of The Movement of the Word of God, that takes ahead a project of parochial animation of their own, that has as fundamental characteristics:

• To develop a communitarian pastoral structure, of formation and service, favoring the development of the pastoral gifts in the lay men and women.

• To provoke the experience of the alive God under the impulse of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God as lifestyle, expressed in the life of small communities gathered around the Word of God, the sharing of the Life and the communitarian spontaneous prayer that evangelizes the person.

• To generate an attitude and a permanent missionary task in all members of the community.

Still many families of our parochial radius live the difficulty of unemployment or have to survive with social plans, the absence of an education and a worthy medical aid; and of opportunities for our young people who transform themselves into victims of addictions, hopelessness and crime, bad feeding, that hurts the families, precariousness in dressing and housing in the face of weather inclemencies, insecurity and violence.

On the other hand, it turns out us from a deep joy to be witnesses of the work of our good God between us, provoking life and accompanying the growth of all our community where, for example among other things, every year 200 families participate of the Family Catechesis, about 120 boys and girls participate in the perseverance and Growth in the faith groups (11 to 15 years), and more than 100 young people of 16 years or older participate of the Communitarian Process for Confirmation. We also count with 18 communities of prayer and service (young and adult), 18 Biblical groups, and more than 200 Circles of the Virgin with 8 families each.
