MoPalDios, the Tent of Encounter

Always is a good moment to satiate the thirst and share the heart with brothers and sisters in faith, allowing the water of love and the grace of testimony to flow freely. For that we also have the MoPalDios community at a distance, as Facebook group, so far reserved to the members of the prayer groups. We have called it the Tent of Encounter.

On their way through the desert, many ancient Israelites lived in tents. They considered the fragile cover that protected them of bad weather as a miniature sky, that kind of protective tent that God extended above the Earth (Ps 104:2).

Those people's Temple was also a tent, where Moses entered to meet God. That is why it was called the Tent of Encounter, of Meeting or Habitation (Ex 26). The Ark of Covenant or of Testimony was kept in it. This Tent was, therefore, a sign of the active presence of God amid his people.

The feast of the Tents (of the Tabernacles or of the Booths), was celebrated in Autumn, when the harvest was kept in booths to protect it from the Winter cold. It was an ancient agricultural feast; but an historical memory was associated to it: it became a commemoration of the care with which God sheltered and protected his people on their way through the desert.

It lasted 8 days, and at the end there were some beautiful symbolic rites with water: this was to remind them that God is the one who calms his people's thirst, to request for rain and expect future blessings of water for Jerusalem. In this context Jesus places his promise of living water in Jn 7:37-39).
